What’s Being A Twin Like | Casey and Mya Pt.8
Mya made her way down the stairs and through the living room. Slipping passed party goers, she made her way into the kitchen and over to the fridge, snagging a beer.
“I heard genius cut his face open. Is he alright?” Maddie asked from behind Mya.
Twisting the top off her beer, Mya tossed it in the trash before taking a swig.
“Don’t know, don’t care.” She said, lowering her bottle. Maddie’s face fell.
“What did he do?” She sighed.
Mya shook her head.
“Nothing.” Mya said, earning an eye roll from her sister.
Clearly she didn’t wanna talk about it; Which was fine by Maddie because now was not the time, nor the place.
Making her way into the dining room, Mya felt a hand on her arm. Turning around, she came face to face with one of her best guy friends, Jason.
“Dance with me!” He yelled, pulling her into him.
Throwing her head back, Mya finished off her drink before allowing him to pull her out onto the makeshift dance floor. As the music and alcohol began to flow through her, all thoughts of Travis vanished. Soon one song turned into two, then three and four. Then, as the fifth one started up, Mya leaned into Sophie, who had joined them a few songs back.
“I’m gonna go get a snack!” She yelled over the music.
Nodding, Sophie gave her a thumbs up as she continued to dance with Jason. Making her way to the kitchen, Mya found Casey standing at the counter, the supplies to make a PB and J laid out on the counter before them.
“What in the world are you doing?” Mya laughed as she walked further into the kitchen.
“Don’t you look at me like that! I’m starving and there’s no snacks here!” Casey said, defensively.
Mya held her hands up in surrender.
“Hey, I’m not here to judge.” She laughed.
Then, inching closer to Casey, she peeked over their shoulder and down at the perfectly spread peanut butter and jelly.
“Can you make me one of those too?” She asked, causing them both to laugh.
“Sure thing.” Casey said, pulling two more slices of bread out of the bag.
After making their sandwiches, Casey and Mya snagged two sodas from the fridge and headed out onto Chelsea’s back porch.
As they sat, enjoying their food, and looking up at the night sky, Mya looked over at Casey.
“Can I ask you a question?” Mya asked.
“Well technically you just did, but I’ll allow another.” Casey said, causing Mya to laugh.
“Dork.” Mya said, knocking Casey’s shoulder with her own.
“What was being a twin like? Or what is it like?” Mya asked.
Casey hummed, letting Mya know that they liked her question. Setting their sandwich down, Casey dusted the crumbs off their fingers as they finished chewing.
“I remember us being inseparable. When he was pooping, he used to put a towel over his lap and I’d sit on the edge of the tub and we would talk for hours. Our foster parents thought it was weird but he just wanted some company while he was taking a shit.” Casey said, causing both them and Mya to laugh.
After settling down, Mya opened her mouth but quickly closed it again.
“What is it?” Casey asked, curious about what she was about to say.
Mya shook her head.
“No. It’s too personal.” She said.
“Ask anyways. The worst that’ll happen is I’ll say I don’t wanna talk about it.” They said.
Taking a deep breath, Mya filled her lungs with air before breathing out. Then, turning her attention to Casey, she spoke.
“How’d you and Cain get separated?” She asked.
Turning their attention to the stars, Casey thought about the last time they saw their twin brother.
