Wait a second! Have you read ‘Well Don’t You Two Look Cozy’ ?
Olivia looked up to find Sophie stealing glances at her every five seconds. Each time she looked up, Sophie gave her that all knowing smirk of hers.
“Hey! Eyes on the road, you can make googly eyes at your lover when we get back to the house.” Jade scolded.
“Shut up Jade.” Sophie said as she shifted her gaze back to the road.
The gang made it back to the house in no time. As soon as Sophie pulled into the driveway, she shifted the car into park and jumped out of the car; she didn’t even bother turning it off. Then, ripping the back door open, she pulled Olivia out. Without so much as a goodbye to the others, Sophie dragged her best friend towards the house.
“What was that all about?” Nate asked, hooking a thumb in the direction the girls ran off in.
“Oh they’re gonna go gossip about Nat.” Jade said nonchalantly, earning her a slap to the arm from Chelsea.
“Ow! What the hell was that for?!” Jade asked, rubbing her arm.
“You can be real dense sometimes, you know that?” Chelsea said.
Meanwhile in the house, Sophie dragged Olivia to their shared room and shut the door.
“Tell me everything!” Sophie demanded.
“Everything about what?” Olivia said, trying to play dumb.
Sophie rolled her eyes before cocking her head to the side.
“Chase, your impromptu date with Nat-”
“It wasn’t a date. We just went for a walk.” Olivia said, cutting her best friend off.
Sophie paused for a moment, a look of unamusement taking over her face.
“I’m serious. Come on Soph, would I lie to you?” Olivia asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Yes! You do it all the time!” Sophie pointed out.
Olivia sighed, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Never about guys though!” She said.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Olivia mentally face palmed.
“Shit!” She said, this time actually slapping her forehead.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, her brows bunching together.
“Nat’s not a guy. They’re non-binary.” Olivia said.
“Wait! If they’re non-binary then what does that make you?” Sophie asked.
Olivia stared blankly at Sophie for a moment.
“Soph, what are you talking about? Who someone dates has nothing to do with their gender.” Olivia said.
Sophie shook her head.
“No stupid. Nat lies outside of the stereotypical binaries and you identify as BI. See where I’m going with this?” Sophie said.
Truth be told, Olivia had never thought about it like that. Nat wasn’t the first non-binary person that she’d met, but they were certainly the frist one she felt this instant connection with; In fact, Nat was the frist person period, that Olivia felt so drawn to.
Olivia opened her mouth, words lost on her. Then, a knock at the door caused both women to jump a little.
Biting back a smile, Nat stood at the door, their hands up to show that they came in peace.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare ya. I was just walking by and heard my name, so I stopped. I wasn’t eavesdropping, I swear. But could I maybe put my two cents into this conversation?” Nat asked.
Olivia patted the bed beside her, inviting Nat to have a seat.
“Truthfully, I don’t care how you identify, so long as you’re honest with me, I think we’ll be fine.” Nat said.
Olivia gave a little nod and a bright smile, causing Nat to smile back.
“Alrighty. I’m gonna go, so you guys can finish talking about how sexy I am.” Nat said, causing Olivia to laugh.
“Oh please. Get over yourself.” Olivia joked, rolling her eyes.
Without another word, Nat backed out of the room, pulling the door closed on their way out.
